Showroom for tourists to open in Cebu
HEEDING the call of the Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 to set up a showroom where tourists can buy export-quality goods, the founder and owner of Nature’s Legacy Eximport Inc. is opening his own next month. Pete Delantar said they are finishing the construction of a two-level, 500-square-meter showroom in P. Remedio St. Mandaue City, which is slated for opening before the end of February. He said it will become a new shopping facility for both foreign and local tourists who want to own a piece of Cebu-made fashion accessories, home decors and furnishing, and furniture. “We were urged by the DOT some two years ago to create a facility where tourists could get a glimpse of Cebu’s creative export industry. They asked us to dedicate a space in our showroom for tourists so they could buy souvenirs and set up a coffee lounge where they could relax while shopping,” said Delantar. The showroom will carry the products under the brands of Nature’s Legacy and Floreia Fashion. Delantar said they have dedicated a 100-square-meter space in the showroom intended for tourists.
“We built the showroom with the FIT (free independent traveler) in mind because they are the type of tourists who usually avoid malls when buying homecoming gifts for their loved ones. Aside from avoiding the crowd, they’d like to buy items that are truly made from the place they are visiting,” he said. “This showroom is for them and shoppers hunting for unique and original export products.” Delantar announced he will also be forging a partnership with the tour operators in Cebu so they can include his showroom in their tour itineraries. He has also linked with cargo forwarders to facilitate the delivery of orders. Aside from the boom in local construction, the rising tourists coming to Cebu is also a target market for exporters, still struggling to recover from the 2008 global crisis. (KOC)
